Without light, there is no sight. We already take light so much for granted that we only notice it when it is no longer there. It has a greater influence on our bodies than we might think. The type, intensity, and colour of light alone have a major impact on our mood. So it's no wonder that when designing a room, you should also consider the lighting conditions. Biologically effective light is particularly beneficial here, as it targets the well-being, mood, and health of people and is based on the natural effect of sunlight on humans.
How light affects us
Different types of light affect us in different ways. During the day, we are awake, and at night we sleep. In the same way, high illuminance, for example, makes people feel awake, and they can easier to concentrate.
The colour of the light also plays a decisive role. Red light, like from sunset, suggests that it is getting dark and thus has a calming effect on the human body. Daylight, on the other hand, has a high blue component. This kind of light makes us feel awake and active. Our mobile phone and PC screens also have a high blue light content, hence the recommendation to put the mobile phone away 30 minutes before going to bed so that the body can calm down.
Daylight naturally enters the eye from above and from the front. Accordingly, the biological lighting effect is higher the more the artificial lighting is balanced according to the natural one. This effect is enhanced with increasing intensity of the visible luminance of the light source. It is therefore advisable to use luminaires that radiate part of their light indirectly towards the ceiling and the upper third of the walls.
How do you ensure healthy lighting?
At Salvia Gebäudetechnik, we have realised that light is far more important than just illuminating. That's why we ensure healthy lighting at each of our locations.
The following characteristics are significant for the quality of the light:
- Uniform distribution of luminance in the room
- Matching of illuminance to visual task
- Limitation of direct and reflected glare
- Good colour rendering
- Freedom from flicker
- Integration of incident daylight
Always in the right light at Salvia building technology
In our administration building in the Buntweberei in Eislingen, we have taken the implementation of the most natural light possible very literally. Our luminaires shine on the ceiling and on the desks simultaneously and complement each other ideally with the almost ceiling-high windows that let a lot of daylight into the interior. In addition, the luminaires can be controlled using our company's own "LuCas" app so that each employee can dim their luminaires individually. With their green colouring, they bring even more naturalness and colour into the open space as the decoration in the room.
